Wodka Restaurant offers an array of dishes such as the Homemade Lamb Burger with tomato jam and cumin cucumber relish. The Smoked Pork Belly rests on potato discs and is accompanied by toasted almond marshmallows, red currant reduction and an apple and vanilla purée. The chef also utilises asian influences, evident in the Wok Stir Fry dishes.
This aesthetically-pleasing restaurant in a trendy area gave an incredibly disappointing experience! Despite a relatively empty restaurant (at 8pm on a Friday night in December), there was no one to greet us at the entrance and show us to our table. When we were eventually helped, the terrible service just increased at every turn. Most of the items on their food and bar menu were out of stock. The waitress told us that the curry was a bad choice. There was no barman to make us cocktails. The wine list is dismal. The food was mediocre at best. They turned off the aircon half way through the evening on a humid Durban night. Then the crowning moment came when a large unidentifiable cockroach-type creature crawled up the wall behind me followed by a staff member wanting to squash it on the wall right at our table! Shocking, shocking on all aspects. My recommendation is to give this place a miss!
Dry, flavourless, chewy steaks and bland starters. A creme brulee was ordered with a 'extra crackly top please' and came to the table with no hard sugar top at all, and the dessert itself was the consistency of hardened butter. These are not small mistakes a restaurant makes - these are mistakes an amateur cook makes in the kitchen at home. The ambience is really interesting and our waiter was polite but a pity the food couldn't live up to the menu or the venue.
