This quaint little restaurant is on the beachfront in Paternoster. It is an old fishermans house build out of wood and corrugated roofing. The place is very busy so it is best to book even for lunch especially if you would like a table out on the verandah which is lovely in summer but would make sure to be inside in the winter as the Cape can be very cold and wet at that time of the year.

I negate any of the adverse criticism of this restaurant. The service is impeccable. People of all backgrounds are accommodated with courtesy and efficiency. I have been going for over 10 years it’s always packed and the food is terrific. Portion sizes are large and you often can’t finish a meal. I have never had a bad experience

One of the ‘old faithfuls’ of Paternoster has a choice for everyone and is on the beach so the kids can play. We have always had good service and the food is cooked well, and it’s a great place to get some seafood (or steak) with an uninterrupted view of the sea.
Make a booking if going in peak time to avoid getting there and not having a seat.

We recently visited this restaurant at the beachfront in Paternoster.
The food was actually quite good but I would not recommend people to go to this place.
We had several experiences that made us realize that the place and the customers are not very fond of mixed-race couples.
We had to listen to several racist remarks towards us. One person made a remark about getting aids towards my wife. Another family was literally starring at us for being there.
We further got the impression that the person at the reception didn't want to give us a table when she saw 2 mixed-race couples coming in although the waitress already had a free table for us.
We paid a lot for our food and drinks just to listen to some racist remarks and see people staring at us for being in that restaurant.
Further they didn't even bother to reply to my 2 emails after our visit. This is just sad.
This place made us realize that racism is still alive in South Africa.

This was my first visit ever to Paternoster and I had a meal with my wife on Friday 20 March. I must admit if I had known the price I was going to pay for a meal for two I would have booked at a different restaurant. One does not mind paying for great food and great service, but this was not my experience. I thought that the portion sizes were small in comparison to the price we had to pay and although the Malay curry was great the King Prawns I had was insipid and lacked flavour the portion of rice you receive with your meal is just too small. When paying R169.00 for a main course you expect something exceptional unfortunately this was not my experience. I am sure that if it were not for the location it would have changed ownership by now.
I just hope that they do not catch (ecxuse the pun) a lot of other first time visitors.

Very sad day at Voorstrandt Restaurant, Paternoster
We loved Voorstrandt Restaurant in the beautiful Paternoster, when coming to the west coast who is so renowned for their hospitality, we make sure to make a reservation at Voorstrandt Restaurant. Until today 22 March 2015. We went for dinner the previous night, had delicious mains and the waiter suggested we have the sticky toffee pudding for dessert but rather decided to come back for it the next day. So we went there over lunch, the following day and as we placed our order with the waitress, the owner Adriaan comes to just make sure if we wanted dessert and drinks, first we thought he was just checking the order that was placed, but that was not the case. He told us that it is lunch time and that there are people waiting to be served and that it is no problem for him if we come for dessert after lunch time but NOT NOW, and asked us to get up and leave - My jaw dropped on the floor. We have never been so humiliated and embarrassed in our lives!!!!!!! How can this be??? How can a restaurant owner decide for you what you would like to have for lunch and what not, who does he think he is. Adriaan the owner of Voorstrandt Restaurant does not fit in with the West Coast Hospitality. For us that comes from the bustling Gauteng province we're use to rude and inconsiderate restaurant service but have never imagined we would experience that here. Needless to say as much as we loved the restaurant, we will never ever ever go back there. This was ultimately the worst dining experience of our lives.
