Named after the real orphanage founded by St Paul’s Church across the road, Orphanage is a casual dining restaurant and specialist cocktail bar offering drinks with a difference. Opt for More Tea Vicar?, a Rooibos cocktail served in a rose-patterned teacup (a portion of the profit goes to the bar’s namesake Children’s Home), or the Orphanage Martini, a cucumber, elderflower, mint and pressed apple martini served with a cucumber sandwich. Food dishes include the Cauli-fritter (cauliflower heads with a coconut, chilli and lime dip), the Crayfish Signature (a toasted bun with scallion mayonnaise, truffle chips and Asian coleslaw) and the Octopus Crunch (with crumbs, garlic, chilli spring onions and sweet chilli mayo). On Wednesdays see talented saxophonist Jamie Faull performing, along with resident DJs who spin deep-house tunes Wednesday to Sunday nights.
I have always wanted to try this place and finally had the chance with a group of friends. What a cool little bar. Great service from a very sharp and quite entertaining waitress...and the best cocktail I have ever tasted! Served in a tea cup. Thank you for a great evening.
This is number one. I've travelled the world and been to many luxury places but never have I had cocktails like this in my life! Magic. No words to describe it. The atmosphere is also just perfect. This is my little heaven.
Warm, cosy bar with a cool vibe, awesome music, handsome bartenders and profits support a local kids' home. Amazing cocktails - all served in quirky ways, from teacups to little bottles of corked potions - some cocktails expensive but otherwise okay price wise - I'm saving up for the one with 24 karat gold-leaf! Definitely my new favourite spot in Cape Town for a guaranteed good night out with proper cocktails and delicious food.
