Owner's description

This is the latest venture at the Piggly Wiggly complex in the Natal Midlands.

Situated in the vineyards, adjacent to the famous Piggly Wiggly, they have built a beautiful red brick building which houses Menu Restaurant and Highgate Wine Tasting and Winery. The building has been a year in the making; all the features are from reclaimed demolishers. Many hours were spent scouring for all the window frames and features.

Bottles hanging on high beams make for the most interesting lighting. Some of the most beautiful features are the huge crystal Marie Claire chandelier hanging in the foyer, parquet floors and high beautiful windows which greet you as you enter.

With Luca Canderle is at the helm, Menu Restaurant has a menu that will change seasonally. A team of young chefs are in the kitchen trained at 1000 Hills Chef School.

Highgate Wine, a 100% KwaZulu-Natal winery, has been producing for some time now and is bottling their current vintage.

    Charming venue easily accessible on the midlands meander. A small but select menu that caters for all needs - Italian style. You really can't go wrong with this a a choice of restaurant.

    Ambiance - 4 star The grand entrance really makes up for most of these points. You are also allowed the choose your wine from a small but fine selection in a separate room. The restaurant was quite empty for a Saturday evening though so it felt slightly eerie. Service - 5 star We were nicely attended to. Waiters are prompt and will do anything at your request. Friendly service all round. Food - 5 star A seasonal designed menu with a wide variety. Food portions are big so do not be discouraged by the prices. Great presentation and plating.

    Finally a lovely fancy restaurant in the KZN Midlands. It’s such a treat for us! Menu has a beautiful interior with unique hanging bottle light fixtures and a gorgeous chandelier. Everything is well thought out, modern and balanced. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service outstanding. With a lovely selection of wines and the food is mouth watering. The crab soup was my best!

    What a treat! Celebrated our friend's birthday at Menu at Highgate and the service and food was outstanding! Highly recommended for a special occasion!

    Beautifully elegant fine dining experience in the Midlands. Love the “lift loo” which is fitted with a 1945 OTIS elevator; too amazing. Love the dinner and wine-pairing event evenings, which are great value for money. Definitely a special evening out, assured of a great meal and very attentive service.
