Under the direction of gastronomist Michelle Theron, Geuwels has been re-envisioned as the heart of Vergenoegd Löw’s wine and casual dining experience. Housed in an 18th century Cape Dutch building that was once the cellar, Geuwels (Dutch for gables) takes its name from the original gable found during restoration, and also pays tribute to the building’s two end-gables. Interiors are warm, inviting and echo the shades of clay and lime soils of the farm. Beautiful detailing in embroidered surfaces, vintage brass and reclaimed wood invite you to stop, stay and make the most of the moment. Outdoor dining is always an option, if the Stellenbosch weather permits, as it so often does. Open daily, also for immersive tasting experiences that showcase the sea-kissed character of the estate’s merroir wines, the restaurant and wine lounge offer a farm-to-table menu driven by seasonal produce, embodying the farm’s ethos of regenerative growing and sustainability. Here, guests can explore signature pairings such as the Indigenous Food & Wine Experience, featuring seven wines, seven dishes, and seven stories that celebrate resilience, resourcefulness, and South African terroir. Other offerings will include artisanal cheese and charcuterie plates and platters, and Sunday Celebrations - plentiful harvest-style feasts where family and friends gather around abundant tables, raising glasses of wine that tell stories of the nearby Atlantic and lime-rich soils. Set against the vineyards and tranquil farm setting of historic Vergenoegd Löw, Geuwels is a celebration of seasonality, heritage and the pleasure of gathering around the table. It’s also the perfect spot to witness the farm’s famous Indian Runner ducks passing through the werf twice a day, at 9:00 and 12:00, on their way to and from the vineyards.
