Ok so we decided to have an early supper during the week after a hard days work and for a change step out of our comfort zone and try something different. We had walked past this establishment often and knew that there were always clients so lets give it a bash.

Let me start with drinks, as they always do and decided on a simple glass of house wine (Sauvignon blanc) and a few beers. Beers were cold, waters were fine but the glass of wine???? Had to be the worst most acidic house wine you could get. It is so simple to pen up a bottle of something decent. Unfortunately we sent it back and settled for a scotch and water instead.

So four of us decided to share some traditional meals and our waiter (Who whenever we asked what something was, said "Its on the menu") but on his recommendations settled on a Lamb stew in a potjie and a (You must try this it is my favourite) venison Potjie. Each of us had his own starch to accompany the shared to meals and we had a Greek salad to share.

The food arrived, looked decent and we settled in. The greek salad was OK, with the lettuce filled with brown edges (either wet or bruised), but just iceberg, so we picked away at it. The olives were the cheap de-pipped ones used for pizza, so were tasteless.

The lamb stew had good flavours but was very stodgy and overcooked and seemed to be made up of maizena to thicken it up. The lamb itslef was soft, with very little meat in it. The venison potjie was absolutely awful and it was like having a pie filling in a potjie (Only the gravy) The meat had been reduced to liquid and everything was exceptionally salty.

We were going to send this back and asked our waiter - where the meat was and he stated that the venison potjie is made this way and he loves it and that's the way they do it and everyone loves it.

I am afraid that as South Africans we do not take this sort of poor meal lightly and that management need to ensure they have a chef looking after their kitchen not a cook. Food needs to be tasted and checked before being sent out and we will certainly not visit this establishment again or recommend it to anyone.

We decided to get the bill and leave and found that this had to be the biggest waste of R 500 plus we ever had spent. eeeeish!
