In 2022, Eat Out moved from a Top 20 ranking system to a star rating system. The new Eat Out stars were awarded on 20 November by a panel of six judges who ate their way across South Africa. The restaurants rated this year were selected based on several factors – from the décor, ambience and service to the wine list, ingredients used and quality of the food. Restaurants scoring 90 and above, out of 100 on the scorecard, were awarded three stars.

These are the 3-star restaurants for 2022:

La Colombe (Constantia)
Judge’s comment: “This is a bucket-list restaurant in a forest that executes a mind-blowing eating experience.”

PIER Restaurant (V&A Waterfront)
Judge’s comment: “PIER delivers fine-dining food on a grand scale against a spectacular backdrop.”

Salsify at the Roundhouse (Camps Bay)
Judge’s comment: “A combination of impeccable dishes matched with down-to-earth service.”

The LivingRoom at Summerhill Guest Estate (Pinetown)
Judge’s comment: “This restaurant preserves the heritage of local ingredients on a fine-dining menu.”

Wolfgat (Paternoster)
Judge’s comment: “A multi-course, seasonal and hyper-local menu situated in a modern elegant space.”
