#UberIceCream delivered to your door on Friday 24 July

Taxi service Uber is running its fourth global ice cream delivery campaign, #UberIceCream, this Friday (tomorrow). For one day only, users in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town can get Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream delivered to their door.

Uber warns that demand will be high and availability will be limited, so get your fingers ready for the starting pistol an hour before noon.

Here’s how to get your just desserts: open the Uber app on Friday 24 July 2015 between 11am and 5pm, set your location and request ice cream. Place your order and wait patiently for your serving of Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream to arrive on your doorstep. The price is R80 for four tubs, and delivery fees will be calculated as per Uber’s usual model.

Also, as part of a sign-up drive, Uber is offering the ice cream delivery for free if you register as a new user and use the code ICECREAMSA2015.

We’ve covered the locally made artisanal ice cream in question before, and love Paul Ballen’s inventive flavours like roasted banana and Nutella, white rabbit (after the Chinese sweets), and a birthday-cake flavour made with batter mixed into the custard base and brightly coloured sprinkles.

For #UberIceCream Paul is offering his five standard flavours – roasted banana, cookies and cream, dulce de leche, milk chocolate, and Madagascan vanilla – but what Uber users will receive depends on availability.

Paul, who’s just opened up his first retail store in Melville, says it’s been a crazy ride: “We’ve had to create special packaging that holds four units – and we had one day to get that designed and printed. Now we’re racing to the finish line…”
