If you’ve got a sweet tooth and reside anywhere in the vicinity of Rosebank, Johannesburg, we have excellent news for you: after the success of its smaller stall at Melville’s 27 Boxes, Paul’s Homemade Ice Cream (PHIC) has opened its first standalone retail store at The Zone @ Rosebank.

The new store, which has already had its soft opening, will open officially on Sunday 24 January. It boasts a dedicated sundae bar, where customers can build their own combos, and will also be offering a sundae of the month. This month’s creation is a milk chocolate ice-cream sundae with white-choc brownies for R45 (swoon).

In addition to standard cones (R25 a scoop), Paul’s is also going to be offering some new ice-cream sandwiches made with the scoop of your choice between two home-baked chocolate-chip cookies (R35).

The team at PHIC is constantly dreaming up new ways to seduce us, but you can reliably expect classic flavours like milk chocolate, Nutella and Oreo, cookies and cream, roasted banana, dulce de leche, Peppermint Crisp tart and crowd favourite, birthday cake, to appear.

“PHIC has big plans to establish this concept store as its playground for experimenting with different flavours, and testing them out on the market,” says Danya Amoils, PR and media manager for the growing business. Rosebank was chosen thanks to its central location and the fact that it pulls a large variety of different types of consumers from different cultures. “We want to change ice-cream culture in South Africa, and we will start here at The Zone,” explains Joshua Amoils, one of PHIC’s owners.

Now that’s a cause we can get behind.
