The eagerly awaited Time Out Market Cape Town has officially confirmed to open its doors on 17 November 2023 and will be located at The Old Power Station, Dock Rd at the V&A Waterfront. This exciting development is accompanied by the introduction of two additional culinary concepts and an array of cultural, artistic, and bar experiences.
The announcement follows the recent revealing of the additional star-studded line-up of chefs and restaurants, featuring Barakat by chefs Anwar Abdullatief and Yolani Abrahams, Culture Wine Bar by chef Matt Manning, and YARD by Dog’s Bollocks and Pizza Warehouse.
Renowned chef Peter Tempelhoff is introducing an exclusive sushi concept called Sushiya in collaboration with chef Shin Takagi from the two-star Michelin restaurant Zenia in Kanazawa, Japan. Additionally, chef Hitesh Panchal, hailing from the family-run establishment, Kapoochka, currently based at Makers Landing in V&A Waterfront, will be offering a contemporary twist on Indian street food.
Sushiya, meaning ‘Sushi Shop’, is a testament to the chefs’ shared commitment to sustainability, craftsmanship, and authentic ingredients. The menu will feature a variety of small dishes, modern nigiri platters, maki, and temaki infused with both local and classic Japanese flavours. Every element of Sushiya’s menu is carefully curated, from small-scale suppliers in Japan to ethical fishermen in the Western Cape, ensuring a high-quality dining experience.
Kapoochka, on the other hand, is set to introduce Cape Town to the wonders of Indian street food with a contemporary twist. Chef Hitesh Panchal, along with his sons Tushar and Hriday, has meticulously crafted a menu that highlights popular Indian street foods. Among their offerings, the menu includes the iconic pani puri, a delightful explosion of flavours featuring crispy hollow balls filled with potato, lentils, three chutneys, and spiced water. Kapoochka also promises to bring various meats from the tandoori oven and mouth-watering dessert puris.
Time Out Market Cape Town isn’t just about food, it’s also set to be a cultural hub with a selection of local wines, beers, cocktails, mocktails, and soft drinks served at three bars. The market’s cultural offerings will feature a curated programme of events, including jazz evenings, comedy nights, and DJ sessions, as well as vibrant art installations from Cape Town-based artists Zabalaza Art Faktory and ALFA.
“Time Out Market Cape Town will bring a new culinary and cultural experience to the city, and we can’t wait to open our doors on November 17. It will be a big celebration of this fantastic city,” says Russ Meyer, General Manager of Time Out Market Cape Town.
