While the Cape Winelands may be known for its sprawling wine farms, there are also many pubs to cosy up in for a slap-up special. From pizza deals to two-for-one burgers, here are some must-try pub lunch specials in the Winelands.
Serving traditional pub fare with breathtaking views of the Groot Drakenstein Mountains, the Elephant and Barrel – named after the elephants that once roamed the area – is also a great spot for a moreish lunch for less. If you visit on a Monday, you can opt for a chicken or beef burger and chips for just R50, while on Thursdays Hawaiian and Regina pizzas are R50.
What was once the Franschhoek Train Station is now the place to enjoy delicious food, craft beer and a fun vibe. On Wednesdays you can treat yourself to a chicken or beef burger and get another free!
This cosy, upmarket spot is a bargain-hunter’s paradise, as there are two-for-one specials running on various days of the week. Mondays are all about the burgers, while on Wednesdays and Sundays you’ll find items such as pizza, pasta and chicken schnitzels on the two-for-one menu.
This charming restaurant and tavern is a family favourite. It runs a daily special from 11am to 7pm, when all pub lunch dishes are just R69.50. For R29 you can add a 500ml SAB draught beer.
Lunch at Julian’s is a great idea on any day of the week. On Mondays all burgers are R55.95; on Tuesdays wraps are R55.95; on Wednesdays nachos are R59.95; on Thursdays you can get a pizza for R55.95; and, to finish the week off on a high note, there’s buy-one-get-one-free pasta on Fridays.
Mondays are anything but blue when you can have a beer and burger for just R20. On Thursdays, look out for the hake specials, and on Wednesdays peri peri livers with rice.
Join in for Taco Tuesdays every Tuesday. This deal includes tacos for two people and a dipping board for R150. On Thursdays, there’s also a soup for two deal for R120.
