The Grilled Cheese Club – the service that delivers grilled cheese sandwiches to your office – is back up and running in Cape Town with a brand new supplier, Bacon on Bree. (Last year around this time they did their first stint, but without the bacon.)
Powered by new-age couriers WumDrop, the service takes orders via Twitter or Facebook. Your order will be delivered between 12.45pm and 2pm on the day you order, provided you place it before noon. Payment is via cash or SnapScan.
We’d hate to recommend something without tasting it first, so the Eat Out team trialled the service earlier today. (You’re welcome.)
The grilled cheese sarmie in question is Richard Bosman’s Smokey Joe with bacon, smoked mozzarella and paprika on toasted sourdough (R50), an impressively cheesy creation.
“Dis @#&*$ lekker!” reports Eat Out business manager, Werner Hayward. Copy editor Linda Scarborough, meanwhile, bows out during the second half. (She’s a professional, so this is a sign that it is indeed a very rich dish).
The grilled cheese is available on a low-carb roll – if you’re wheat intolerant or banting – but be warned, it’s a little smaller, and the roll has an aniseed taste. (Avoid if you’re afraid of fennel and similarly liquoricey flavours).
The Grilled Cheese Club currently delivers within Cape Town’s City Bowl and the Atlantic Seaboard for a flat rate of R35 (excluding the cost of the loot). They aren’t currently in Joburg – “Sozzlecopter,” they apologise on their website – but are happy to receive suggestions for a grilled cheese partner up North via Twitter.
You do need to order a minimum of R100 worth of bacon-cheese sarmies. (That’s two, for the maths boffs.) But with Bacon on Bree on board, a single email round the office ought to do the trick.
You can also order a grilled cheese without bacon, “if you must”.
