Spice Route creator to open new foodie playground at the Silo District

With the opening of the Zeitz MOCAA museum, The Silo District at the V&A Waterfront is one of the hottest new precincts in Cape Town. Opening on Friday 6 October, The Yard is the latest addition, and is set to be a brand new playground for foodies. Labelling themselves a “hybrid concept store”, the space will house several sit-down dining options, plus items for purchase, including delicatessen goods; chocolates; homemade pasta; and cheeses; as well as homeware.

The deli and coffee bar is where you’ll find iced tea, flavoured water and beans from Rosetta Roastery Coffee. Offerings from the salad and warm buffet section, located beside the coffee bar, will change daily. There is also a bar for after-work drinks and cocktails. The fine dining section of The Yard meanwhile, will offer numerous dishes influenced by Oriental, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and Indian flavours. All this can be enjoyed while overlooking the harbour.

The inspiration for the fusion of flavours come from the minds of Bisogno and Singh. Photo supplied.

This emporium is the brainchild of Abigail Bisogno, who also created the Spice Route, and her partner GP Singh. Their different heritages – with Abigail hailing from the winelands and GP from India – is what inspired The Yard. Abigail explains: “GP and I share a vision and passion for Euro-Asian cuisine that seeks to unify Asia-Indian-European flavours.” That love for fusion is evident from the mix of flavours that will be available on the fine dining menu.
