Here are some Joburg venues if you’re looking to toast in the New Year at a restaurant.
Catered for by Aurum restaurant, this new champagne bar at one of the highest points in Joburg will have its first ever highest toast in Jozi on 31 December 2021 from7.30pm with a live DJ performance. The R750 per person cover charge includes a glass of Moet & Chandon on arrival.

The popular eat-all-you-want buffet at Chief’s Boma will be served on New Year’s Eve for R650 per person or R1 300 per couple. The African-themed spread of more than 120 dishes is accompanied by live Marimba music.
The two- or three-course menu available on the night is enough to line your stomach: a tempura prawn salad with sweet chilli sauce starter, choice of rump steak or fish served with baby potatoes, spinach and pumpkin and a dessert of cheesecake or ice cream and choc sauce. The two-course meal is R180, while three courses will cost R220. This is exclusive of the R120 entrance fee which includes a Jose Gold tequila, strawberry lips & a Monkey Sours.
Dinner starts at 7pm with starters like yellowfin tuna tartare accompanied by chive, potato, and crème fraiche bavarois; smoked Wagyu carpaccio; and chilled seafood tower served with a yummy range of dips and salsas. Then Monkfish and Black Angus short rib and a carvery station with all the trimmings will be served for mains at the ‘New Year’s Eve On the Hill’ celebration featuring live music by DJ Mauzah.
The Midrand-based business specialising in South African street food favourites, such as kotas and Russians with slap chips, will be hosting a New Year’s Eve celebration with a difference – a two-day camp out called “Freedom in the Bush”. It will start on the 31st of December, with a harvest table, drinks at an open bar, snacks, games, live music and DJ performances, and end on the 1st of January with brunch. Sleeper tents, shower facilities and curated food are included in the R2 500 price.
Once again, the live music venue and wine bar with a famous grillhouse menu will be open on New Year’s Eve, this time with music by Rhythmic Pulse and DJ Floyd. The R350 cover charge includes a Monkey Shoulder welcome drink. Doors open at 5pm but under current curfew conditions the bar will close at 11pm. Besides some of the finest steaks in Joburg, guests can sample drinks from the extensive wine bar, select a dram from more than 100 different whiskeys, fine cognacs and bourbons and try the fine cigars.

The hotel is open on New Year’s Eve and serves an a la carte menu including mains of grilled beef fillet served with burnt leek, braised short rib, sautéed mushrooms and red wine jus; succulently soft slow roast pork belly; or poached salmon served with confit tomato, fresh peas, charred sweetcorn and tarragon beurre blanc. The mains option for vegetarians will be homemade ricotta agnolotti with fine herbs, violet artichoke, haricot bean purée and black truffle.
The theme is salsa music, and R475 gets you in to dance the night away into the New Year at the 13th floor restaurant with beautiful views of the Joburg skyline. The charge also covers dinner and your welcome drink. Doors open at 6.30pm, food will be served from 7pm-10.30pm, and you can salsa into the New Year until 2am. But if you want to sleep over, you can book for both the New Year’s Eve Dinner & Salsa and one-night’s accommodation, plus breakfast for two, for R1 900.
