Cape Town has been named the best food city in the world by Conde Nast Traveler in its latest Readers’ Choice Awards survey. The magazine mentions Kalk Bay fish ’n chip shop Kalky’s, Eat Out Restaurant of the Year The Test Kitchen, The Pot Luck Club, the Neighbourgoods Market and The Gin Bar, in their summary of Cape Town’s culinary appeal.
The Mother City beat out Dubai at number two and Hong Kong at number three for the top spot as a readers’ favourite. The list excludes US cities, which get their very own list, and features several Asian cities, with Tokyo (10), Shanghai (9), Singapore (8), Taipei (7) and Hong Kong (3) all making the list.
Congratulations to all our local chefs, restaurants and market stall-holders!
Wonderful accolades for Kalkies. They are wonderful- feeding perfect meals to so many people every day. That is real talent.
The reason we visit frequently from UK. Food is awesome, as is the scenery. Love it!
Kalkies is an abolute gem of a spot, located at the Harbour with really awesome people working there. Another great dining spot in Kalk Bay is definitely Harbour House, absolutely perfect meals with a delightful pairing of its wine list – which also boats a nice selection of premium liquors.
I couldn’t agree more. Nobody beats Cape Town when it comes to food. The combination of high quality and low prices is hard to find anywhere in the world. Yes, you find top restaurants in other world cities as well, but prepare to pay – big time! Congratulations. So well deserved.
