The latest addition to Cape Town’s thriving foodie scene is YU Restaurant situated at the new Onyx Hotel in the Foreshore.
A short shaded walk from CTICC, the Artscape Theatre and numerous office hubs in the upcoming business district, YU offers a sophisticated tapas experience, together with a bar and restaurant lounge.
Menu highlights include Beef Short Rib Bao, Prawn & Butternut Dim Sum, Soft Shell Crab with Sesame Mayo and Peking Duck. Sushi and poke bowls are also on offer.
For drinks, choose from Japanese Craft beers, a selection of Sake or opt for a cocktail featuring flavours like Yuzu, Soju, coconut and ginger - making it an ideal spot for after work drinks or CBD commuters keen to skip the traffic.
The name “YU” stems from the Japanese language and alludes to excellence and leisure. Designed by Yaniv Chen and Leigh Fink from Master Studio, the restaurant features warm wood textures, Japanese Matchbox art and an eclectic Octopus wall mural.
Owner Rory Jossel has been involved in Asian cuisine for the past two decades, starting out as a waiter in his cousins restaurant and working his way to become partner on a number of established Asian contemporary restaurants across South Africa and even Dubai.
Rory also runs MRKT restaurant next door, which serves the onsite hotel patrons and offers wholesome breakfast and lunch to walk-ins.
YU is open Monday to Saturday from 12pm to 11pm and has ample on-street parking available to patrons.
