Chefs creating simple, flavorful food. From the owners of Sense of Taste Chef school, Debs and Chef Peter Ayub, and Sous Chef Byron Thebus. Together with Chef Basil Grootboom, their small yet dynamite team gives you their take on Global Gourmet Street Food that is to be loved and shared by all.
Food to us is really about that exchange amongst those who are indulging, the memories that are created, where food is at the centre of it all.
Our menu speaks for itself. This is urban street food at its best! Sustainable, ethical, seasonal, no waste (nose to tail), food made with love, supporting local producers/businesses. We showcase our values in the food we produce along with our originality and fun atmosphere with our open, edgy kitchen that’s loud and fun, a chefs playground. Where we are constantly working on dishes to blow your taste buds away.

Urban Playground is a cosy and vibey (BYOB) resturant that never seizes to amaze me. Every time I go I try a different meal, and each time I end up leaving more delighted and satisfied than before. From the various delicious Pizzas to the scrumptious Duck and the best Malva and home made Ice Cream I've ever had, I keep coming back wanting more.
Aside from the innovative and delectable food, the chefs are insanely energetic and brilliant at what they do. It's a pleasure to get to watch their madness from the front of the kitchen as they work and always manage to create a fun atmosphere.

A must visit spot for foodie lovers! This cosy, quaint gem in Maitland has a fun, vibey atmosphere with the most delicious gourmet street food.
Love their sustainable, ethical approach and nose-to-tail creations where nothing is wasted, supporting local producers and using seasonal produce.
It's BYO and Eisbein for the super hungry! Pizza bases are made to order. Fresh, delicious, inventive dishes await. A cool spot for a fun urban dining experience.

The inherent "gees" of Urban Playground, lends itself to uniting patrons who were complete strangers when they walked in, but end up leaving the restaurant as friends. The atmosphere/ambience that the Urban Family (the Chefs, Trainees, Chef Pete and Debs) have created is synonymous with having friends and family over for a meal. We were super comfy in spite of the chill (they have wall mounted heaters for the chilly winter nights). The food at Urban is phenomenal!! We are working our way through the menu, ordering different dishes with each visit - have had all their pizza's as well as the Chicago Hot Dog, bacon and pea soup, homemade ice cream. Next visit is the Eisbein with mash and sauerkraut! See you guys on Friday night!

We have been trying to get into this much talked about restaurant for ever and finally got a reservation. It was definitely worth the wait! We had the most helpful, informed waiter Keeron and the chefs came to chat and check on us. The vibe at Urban Playground is so cool and I love the fact that you can BYOB and a beer for the chef! The food was amazing and Keeron suggested the Masala steak sandwich which one of our guests ordered and raved about! The Lebanese flatbread was tasty and was filling. The pork belly which someone at our table ordered has asian flavours and the stickly rice which was served with it was sublime. The food was well presented and we even received an 'on the house' mushroom soup to start with. The deserts we ordered included a brownie and the cheescake. Both deserts were superb and my friend said it was the best cheescake she had ever tasted. We will definitely be going back as we want to try the Thali and the Peking Duck which looked so good.
