Owner's description

Tribe (BMW), the concept store in Cape Town, is a combination of motorcycle- and café society. Tribe’s trailblazing coffee will be on offer to supercharge visitors, with the addition of a café-style menu crafted by Maureen Muller, a fresh face on Cape Town’s haute cuisine scene.

The café interior is finished in deep leathers, smoky colours and dark, raw wood to give it a sexy, masculine appeal. The use of natural materials, particularly, glass, metal and wood, and the incorporation of hanging plants, softens the mechanical emphasis that would otherwise predominate on the showroom floor.

Within the café, motorcycle culture is honoured in the form of delicate pendant light fittings that have been fashioned from motorcycle engine parts and a glass-topped coffee table supported by two iconic 1200cc Boxer engines. The visual appeal of the café will change constantly through a small but edited display of collectible, vintage motorcycles.

Disgusted at the service I received! Both male and female staff could not answer my question when I asked them what coffee was available. They were generally very unhelpful. Eventually I had to go and take a menu on my own to see what was available. When I finally went and stood at the counter to order the female staff member rolled her eyes at me. Sadly, I doubt I will ever be back, despite how everyone raves about the coffee.

Terrific coffee! Deep, rich, but super smooth and not too bitter - one of my new favourites. Had a cappuccino and a macchiato - both excellent. The breakfast menu is rather brief (no eggs Benedict which is what I had been dreaming of) but I made do with the mushrooms on toast on rye bread, which were nice and herby. Finished with a date ball, which was 90% biscuit (that is not a complaint - it was delicious!) The interior is a bit dark, further back, but if you sit near the front there's a lovely street view out over busy Buitengracht. I'll be back for the coffee.

The best place to have a quick business meeting over yummy food and excellently prepared coffee. As a local I am proud that "Tribe 112" is able to compete with the big brands and provide an authentic experience. Every time I go here there is something interesting happening and the location couldn't be better.
A trip to Cape Town without going to both the Tribe shopsI would not be a trip to Cape Town. Tribe is much more than just coffee. Dont get me wrong since Tribe came along I have learned to appreciate good coffee thanks to the explanations and passion of the owners and staff so no ways will I ever be happy with anything less. But Tribe is much more, in Woodstock in addition to just enjoying the tables and the people who come there I love the walls, murals and the other one with strange things growing out of it - creativity like I never thought of so for me an endless source of fascination. The best though is to sit and drink coffee among the best bikes in the world. No NOT Harleys, BMW's, real bikes. On its own the Town branch with its raised view over the street and great food would be specially enjoyable on its own but the addition of beautiful motorbikes is a coffee/petrol head's dream come true. All in one! I live and work oversease but so far I have not come across anything to compare. Tribe ROCKS Richard
Since launching, Tribe @ BMW has fast become one of my favourite cafés in the CBD. The decor is inspired, the atmosphere is comfortable and the staff are friendly and welcoming. I usually bounce between a cortado, an iced coffee or a freshly squeezed juice: all are worth visiting for. On the food side, there's a lot to recommend: particularly their bacon and tomato quiche, and their chicken mayo sarmie (if you're in a rush). Added bonus for motorcyclists like myself: the hordes of BMWs to ogle, and the classic BMW R80G/S parked in the middle of the café!
