I've had the privilege of bringing many high end and bespoke events and weddings to Lanzerac as part of the company I work for. So in between meetings and setting up I've had the opportunity to have either lunch or dinner in the Governor's Hall Restaurant or outside on the sunny terrace. Part of the charm of The Lanzerac is their old world Cape Winelands style and decor in their public areas (the rooms have all the modern bells and whistles and have recently been upgraded - so beautiful!) It may not be for everyone but in winter its wonderfully cosy (at least 3 to 4 fireplaces always crackling away) and I enjoy sitting amongst all the painting and history. The food however is far from "old world". In summer, they make a mean Caesar Salad (my go-to summer salad!) with all the correct trimmings. If you prefer chicken or bacon or both, anchovies only in the sauce or a few fillets in the salad - the chef is really accommodating and will adjust it to your personal preference. I've also had the chicken and prawn curry in winter and that was delicious! The portion was quite substantial for lunch - but every mouth full kept me wanting more and more. So of course I finished it :) My colleague had the gourmet burger which looked amazing. She mentioned the tomato jam added a really fantastic and slight sweetness to it that she really enjoyed. Service is excellent and on par with what you'd expect from a 5 star hotel. No faults there. The wine is of course Lanzerac wine and all superb. I'd highly recommend the Lanzerac for a lovely lunch out in the winelands on the terrace on a sunny day, or a cosy, intimate date night if you are in the area (or want a weekend away!) This isn't a loud bustling restaurant - so expect discreet service, delicious food and wine and an intimate, romantic setting in winter.
