Sotto is the Sister to Sopra it's all about great cocktails, light bites and the classic pizza and pasta. Sotto Sopra is the perfect location to enjoy a quick bite.
They also boast a gorgeous artistic space filled with an impressive collection of contemporary art. Mix also offers superb views over the suburbs and is a fabulous place to enjoy sun-downers.

Horrible experience. Don’t even waste your time. These are the type of people who will make you feel as though you’re wrong and don’t know food if you complain. The calamari was too salty, we literally could not eat it. The pasta was undercooked and we were told “pasta is supposed to have a white powdery line”, the beetroot salad looked nothing like the images on their Instagram page. The manager was rude and non apologetic and basically told us that’s how food is. As if we’ve never tasted food before. I never want to say horrible things about a restaurant especially after the pandemic, but this is not worth the price they put up

Please don't waste your money dining here. The level of service was shocking. Meals were not delivered timeously. They arrived in separate batches and when they did arrive they were unpalatable and required a generous level of seasoning. An inadequate kitchen staff supported by an owner/ manager who has an inability to speak truthfully to his guests regarding the service failures is not the type of establishment one would want to frequent. Given the dearth of options in the Rosebank area - some directly above and adjacent to this establishment, I'd suggest supporting any of the other establishments

We had made the reservation for 16 people ahead of time so your establishment should have been staffed and prepared for us in advance, we were also attending as part of a graduation party, this was a special event which was absolutely ruined thanks to Sotto sopra.
We also spent in the margin of R4000 at your establishment, considering the service and quality of our experience it was not worth even half of this and we would have been happier ordering take away pizzas!
Details regarding our complaint:
1. When we arrived, we were seated in the back section and had a giant pillar separating our party, we had 8 individuals on one side of the pillar and 8 on the other side. We had to call the manager and ask for them to move us to closer to the bar which then easily accommodated us in a much more social setting. How on earth did your team think that seating us in the original manner was appropriate?
2. Considering we were a table of 16, we were given 1 waiter. This was one of the contributing factors for the chaos. We ordered bottles of water but didn't get glasses, then would ask for glasses but it would take another 5-10 minutes. Then we would ask for ice and wait another 5-10min. Then we would ask for cutlery, which would again take 5-10 min. We would ask for side plates, but this would take 5-10 min. We would ask for cocktails and then they would forget something. We would ask to order something from the menu but would have to go to the main part of the restaurant and call a waiter because we were so frequently left unattended to. It was an absolute mess and we were constantly left unattended to and waiting for something from the wait staff. We did not rock up at your restaurant unannounced, we had made this booking well in advance, why were we not given adequate wait staff to support such a large table?
3. The waiter took the order from our table in piecemeal, which meant half the table got their order at a different time to the other table and we ended up eating separately. Does this sound like something you would do if you all came together to a party?
4. Half the table finished their orders and the other 8 people still had not received their food, the waiter told us "they were just plating up and it will be there there shortly", 20 minutes later, another 4 meals were provided. 20 minutes to plate 4 pasta meals? How gullible does your staff think we are, obviously there was some issue in the kitchen - be honest and just say that! None-the-less given the wait time, we started to eat despite the fact that all the meals were not yet at the table despite placing all these orders together.
5. At this point we were still 2 meals short, the manager comes out and announces that there was a problem with the banting pizza bases which were sticking to the oven and the 2 outstanding meals could not be made unless we were prepared to wait another 20 min. This was honestly unacceptable! We had been waiting so long for our food, we were lied to about the 20 minutes to plate and now we were told we would not get any further meals for the 2 people remaining? The irony was the other half of our table had ordered these banting bases and those were prepared and delivered without issue, why the sudden issue now? Why lie and tell us that you were plating when you actually had a problem in your kitchen? If the banting bases were such an issue, offer to make another normal base pizza so 2 people dont leave there hungry instead of just saying it cant be done! Are you not an Italian restaurant, is pizza not part of your basic service offering, how can you call yourself an italian establishment that cannot make pizza? I am absolutely flabbergasted!
At this point we vocalised our extreme dissatisfaction and the manager and the waitron staff then elected to retreat and to not return to our table until the time we got up looking for them to ask for the bill.
Your team ruined our night and then they were too embarrassed to come back to apologise or see if they could salvage the experience, offer us a dessert, or coffees - nothing. they literally disappeared and only appeared again when we looked for them when it was time to pay the bill.
This entire experience with your restaurant was miserable, the service was horrendous, the food was pathetic at the least and the way your staff handled their mistake with our order was dismal.
There was no offer to compensate for the miserable time that was induced purely by your team, which absolutely ruined something as momentous as a graduation party.
The owner contacted me after I sent the email with the details above and offered for our party to return with the other 15 guests for Sotto sopra to rectify our miserable experience, after much convincing, our family agreed to go back, the next day, the owner retracted the offer. Excellent customer service sotto sopra! Will never return and after how you as the owner handled this, I wish you luck because you're not going to stay in business very long with this approach.
