They have a new cheff and a new menu. You wait very long for your food.
Hi. I had breakfast at lunch time. The Eggs Benedict looked delicious via the online Menu, thus had to visit it to experience it myself. One would think that a meal would be layered in the way it has been described, or in a method which does not make the meal inedible. The Menu description did not match the meal: Mozzarella shavings - not found. Not choice of Bread - White only. Fresh baby tomatoes with a balsamic drizzle - not roasted in the balsamic. Grilled Ham - perhaps pan fried, otherwise fat would be more crispy. (never seen fat left on ham, perhaps bacon - not ham) Crème Fraiche - overpowering! cannot taste other elements when I combine all ingredients on 1 fork full. Hollandaise - served in a wine tasting glass of sort, looked like freshly made orange juice - as it had the foam on-top. Was like water when pouring on my food. Bread became soggy = inedible. I would suggest: Bread, ham, crème fraiche, egg, shavings, rocket - sauce on side(not water). Mozzarella shavings would need to be hardened, not buffalo. Buffalo taste is too weak compared with the other strong flavours on the dish. I hope I have provided you with enough feedback. Wishing you all the best. Also I did some shopping around with regards to other places doing Benedict - even the classy wine farms have a cheaper version that yours, and theirs includes the Salmon. Food for thought. See you again for my final round. (As every place can have a bad day, thus I give everyone 2 chances) kind regards, Fabian
"5 stars for food and service?", I hear you say. But surely that can't be possible? Maybe it was just a fluke, maybe we got lucky, but I'm not convinced that our dining experience at Sweetwell will be a once-off 5 star experience. The restaurant has an extensive menu to say the least. We had to choose between dishes on the regular menu, the Chef's specialities menu and a Sunday 3 or 2 course menu at R200-00 or R175-00. Not too easy when everything sounds so appetising. In spite of the variety our waiter was extremely knowledgeable and efficient. I think service might get a bit slower if it gets crowded as he was pretty much on his own. I decided on the Duck salad with melon, various nuts, sprouts, olives and a lovely sweet dressing. I was expecting a few strips of duck on a mountain of leaves for R80-00. But I was wrong. Instead I got a very generous duck fillet cooked to perfection. My better half settled for the Kassler chops and he was not disappointed. Sweetwell also has it's own butchery on site, so you can be sure you'll get the freshest and best meat. Compliments to the chef at Sweetwell. Next time you speed past the farm on your way to Stellenbosch or Somerset-West, do take the turn-off. You won't be disappointed. I suspect we will be making many trips there in future.
I went to Sweetwell on mothers day and I went there with mixed emotions because of my previous bad experiences there and I was so so surprised at the improvement of the food and the feel of the restaurant
They told me there was a new Head chef and I have to say the food was amazing, Fresh, Very Tasty and presented so nicely .. There is a whole new feel to this little gem in the middle of the winelands and they will most definitely see me and the rest of my family very shortly
Do yourself a favour and go try that flatbread and freshly made cakes
Well done to you guys and good luck to your great future
    John
