I thought I must just put in writing our experience at the Crayfish inn last night. I have wanted to go to the Crayfish Inn for the last 100 years but can never get in. So when I knew we were going to be in Ballito again, I made a reservation at reception for 7 people. When we arrived there last night, there was no reservation made for us. Fortunately the waiter, Banana, made a plan for us.
We placed our order for starters, four snails, the prawn tails, mussels and a lobster bisque soup, but asked for a bread roll and butter for my niece who suffers from low blood sugar and she was starving! (We told the kids not to eat as we were going to have such a spectacular meal!) The bread roll took about 15 minutes to get there, in which time my niece started passing out. Eventually we got the roll, she ate and we were all in good spirits. The starters came and they were spectacular! Very nice.
We ordered our mains, 5 queen prawns, a yellow tail line fish and the fish stew. Oh, and an extra plate of prawns because based on the starters it was going to be awesome. And then we waited. Eventually the meal arrived. All the prawns were burnt. The rice was just rice. Nothing else. The fish stew had no taste and the yellow tail was also dry and burnt. The chips were nice.
We paid over R1 800.00 for one of the most disappointing meals ever! When we called the waiter over, he said that we got the trainee chef as everybody else was given the night off, and offered us a breakfast voucher?
The Crayfish inn is supposed to be one of the most amazing places to eat in Ballito. They will never see us again.
