The perfect impromptu pizza lunch just outside Pretoria at Punto Deli and Bakery today. The calamari and caper special was tempting, but from the abundant and succinctly compiled menu we chose a Poverino as well as the Roma pizza. The first, topped with proper peri-peri chicken livers, Danish feta, red onions and wild rocket, positively sang in the mouth from the first bite to the last. The livers, soft and yielding, with just the right kick of chilli to keep one interested, made all the difference. Roma was a wonderfully composed melange of artichoke, crisp pancetta, potato cubes, green olives and tomato; fresh, flavoursome and satisfying in the afternoon heat of the capital. These oblong beauties presented on wooden boards are the making of passionate genius. Many thanks to chef Roberto and his team. The remainder of the menu remains, well, to be continued…
