Also wishing I could give less than 1 star here. We bought a slice of "cheese cake" which was a tasteless gelatenous disaster and a slice of carrot cake which was very dry and paid R 120.00 for the privelage. Would not recommend.
They say they're famous for their baguette, but I think their chocolate brownies should get accolades! Their dark chocolate brownie is made with luxury Callebaut chocolate and that luxury translates into every decadent bite!
This place reminds me of Paris not an upmarket place but with French music and greeting it brought back memories , the croissants from here are so delicious and I keep coming back for more. The staff even attended to me even though the cash was being rung up and the store was nearly closed.
This is a daytime restaurant /bakery and serves light meals and cakes. There are actually four separate areas: an outside area with umbrellas, the sit down indoor cafe area, the cheese shop and the bakery. I very much approved of the separation as this meant the bakery and cheese shop customers did not disturb the cafe customers in any way. The bakery is very narrow and could be very uncomfortable on a hot summer day when it is crowded with customers especially with the cafe customers trying to select their cakes in the bakery as well. The cheese shop had a mind- boggling array of imported cheeses as well as shelves of imported delicatessen spices, bottled and canned goods. The outdoor cafe had bright umbrellas and greenery which gave it a good atmosphere but the indoor cafe area lacked character and I felt the addition of some of the famous striped parisian awnings in the high ceiling would give more atmosphere. We went into the bakery to see what cakes were on offer to eat with our tea. The selection of cakes was limited but what there was appeared attractive and fresh. I chose the baklava cheese cake which was absolutely divine and my friend ordered the bar one cheesecake which she said was delicious. I ordered the hot chocolate and when it came the glass was half full of melted chocolate which I found a bit rich and cloying. I took home a chocolate croissant for my husband (and one for myself) and these turned out to have melted chocolate in the middle as well as chocolate drizzled over the outside. They were not crispy and would perhaps have benefitted from being put in an oven for a while. The famous baguette which I also took home was very tough and chewy. If I had not taken these items home I would have rated the food a full 5 stars but downgraded it due to the items we ate at home. Parking is limited and could be problematic on a busy day.
I wish I could give lower then a 1 star, this place is disgusting!! We ordered a cake to be made for a birthday and when it came is was absolutely terrible, it looked as if a 12 year old baked it, then when confronting the owner Paul(who actually baked it) ; i have never been spoken to so rudely in my life, and was told in quote, "that I was just bitching about the cake"!!! The nerve of this rude old man talking to customer this way was unbelievable!! he continued this way saying things like "who do you think you are" and ended by just walked off in mid conversation, no apology, refused any sought of refund, Worst experience at any dining establishment in my life !! And I'm not over exaggerating!
