For the past three weeks I have been doing an internship at a marketing agency in Woodstock, and every now and then a couple of us interns would go looking for a new place to eat lunch. We came across this awesome little fishmonger and deli in the Woodstock Exchange, called Ocean Jewels. They not only sell the freshest seafood sourced from the False Bay coastline, but they also cook up some great dishes that you can enjoy in the store.
The owner, Julie Carter, is one of the friendliest people you will meet in the area. Her exuberant nature and passion for customer service has no equivalent, as proven by the lunchtime rush 5 days a week. Sitting and chatting to Julie was nothing short of inspiring; her devotion to sustainable fishing and providing quality products is clearly a testament to her success. The deli itself reminds me of a quaint take on a modern fishing village theme, perfectly embodying Julie's embracing and humble nature.

I had lunch at the deli three times in one week, each time trying something new. The menu has a wide variety of dishes, all boasting enormous amounts of flavour. Julie even told me that customers had inspired a few of the dishes and that she is always open to new ideas put forward by customers. For her it's all about keeping the customers satisfied whilst serving top quality food.
My stand out dish was the seared tuna salad which satisfied every one of my taste buds. The tuna was perfectly cooked and coated in an Asian dressing, providing the perfect amount of sweet, savoury and sour. The presentation was rustic but appealing to the eye, setting off the water works in my mouth. Normally I have a few elements in mind which I would change to suit my palette, but this time I was honestly speechless.
I would definitely recommend Ocean Jewels to anyone that enjoys fresh and well prepared fish. Even those who don't like fish, go give Julie's a try, I'm pretty sure you'll change your tune...
