So sad to see an old restaurant become bad. This place used to be magica. On a Thursday night at 7-9 we were the only customers besides 1 more table. Food was gross. The waiter was really kind and helpful. Its a really interesting setting and if the food was good it would be amazing! The bathroom needs workz, its filthy and gritty. Really hope the fix up soon...
    1) the place is dark, dingy, funny smell
    2) very dark...could not even see what I was eating
    3) I'm told it was Haran (spicy lamb, spinach, garlic yoghurt)
    4) couldn't find the meat in the half a pint of watery yoghurt that completely covered, layered and drenched the so-called meat (main course)
    5) cutlery was old...institutional looking
    6) dancer and music: so loud, rowdy and unrelenting for about 40min,we could not talk
    7) the toilet is filthy: mouldy, smelly, gag-worthy
    8) once food and drinks ordered, never again did we see the waiter until closing time
    9) have I mentioned how terrible the food was?!
    10) overall the place is dirty, under-serviced, poor facilities and quality overall.

R210 later for a meal I could not stomach (left it all there), I remain shocked that such a place exists and charges that much in Cape Town.

I've been to Mesopotamia before and find their food really delicious - and the sitting on cushions, etc is a nice novelty factor.
BUT - and here's the big but - the cigarette smoke in the place is disgusting. There's only 1 non-smoking section, but there's no seperation between the 2 so it all smells like smoke anyway.
We were there this saturday (10/10/2011) and in the middle section (seated on the floor)- it was packed. After an hour or so the smoke was really thick and unpleasant - kind of spoiled the meal. I suggest Mesopotamia gets with the programme on the smoking indoors thing. They have a balcony section - put the smokers (and hookah pipes) out there and seperate it off. These days people expect to have to go outside to smoke.
As a result, even though I love the food, I won't be going again.

4 April 2009 - Extremely disappointing experience. We had to wait an hour just to get our drinks (which were not complicated ones like a cocktail or anything...), and to get a refill was almost impossible. Dinner only arrived at 22,00, and it was cold. The service was appalling. I would not recommend it.
Our end of year work function was ruined by bad service (main course arrived at 22h00, we were there from 19h00). The very average tasting food that should have fed 2 -3 people had to be shared amoungst 6-7. There always seemed to be extras added to the bill that could not be accounted for. Most people left around 23h00 and desert had not been served. All this cost us R215 per person. Would advise not to go there.
