Always wanted to visit America but can't find the bucks for the airline ticket? Safe the cash and head over to Franky's Diner. As an American now living in Africa, I love my new home but sometimes get a craving for a bit of my birthplace's culture and cuisine. That craving was perfectly satisfied when I found myself eating at Franky's while on holiday earlier this year. From the black-and-white tile floors and jukebox to the yummy burgers and decadent milkshakes, it wonderfully captures the look, feel, and taste of the iconic 50's style diner memorialized in old movies and still found scattered through out the States. And the staff and prices? Both are excellent. The owner was in the night we were there and happily talked to us about why he started the diner and was keen to hear our perspective as Americans. The waiter and cooks went out of their way to make sure we had a great experience. And the prices? Wow! Wish food this good had been this affordable in the States. Actually, Franky's Diner in Africa is perhaps the best example of this American classic that this foodie has ever had the joy of experiencing either here OR back in the land of Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley.
