Retirement Times was recently invited to review this trendy, French style bistro, which offers a diverse menu in a modern, comfortable setting. Restaurant manager, Johan Schultz, was a charming and attentive host who made us feel welcome and ensured that our wine glasses were never empty. The décor is stylish and tasteful, with seating indoors and outdoors. Talented chef, Steven Crawford, produced five dishes for us to sample. The first course was Paupiette of Sole which was delicious. It consisted of sole fillets stuffed with artichoke and tiger prawns, presented on a butter bean puree, accompanied by steamed clams in a sauced seafood thermador and shellfish bisque. Second course was innovative – venison carpaccio. Fresh thinly sliced venison served with Parmesan, rocket, onion chips and mustard mayonnaise. This was followed by the third course of oven-baked linefish topped with sautéed red onion and cherry tomatoes, served with rocket and roasted butternut, and sauced with basil pesto oil, seafood veloute and reduced balsamic vinegar. Excellent! Thankfully, Steven ensured that our servings were mini-versions of the real thing, so we still had room for his confit duck which, in our opinion, was the star of the show. It was basted with soy and honey marinade, and accompanied by coriander sweet potato mash and sesame tossed bok choy. To die for! Of course, no meal is complete without dessert, and the Amaretto crème brulee was the perfect finale to a relaxing evening of fine fare and excellent service in a unique ambiance. The Cosmopolitan Restaurant is open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
