Cassis Paris (Gardens)

Cassis has brought an element of sophistication to the Gardens Centre and I'm very happy that they've moved in. The dominant purple colour is attractive yet not overpowering, the cakes and pastries are wonderful and the menu offers French variety and flavour to the fairly standard menus one encounters in Cape Town. My particular favourite is the goat's cheese salad, which gives a sample of what is special about this restaurant's food. The balls of goat's cheese are lightly fried and the salad part is made more delicious with slices of apple, also fried. But all is light, fresh, full of flavour. One aspect I don't like is that the tables, especially the small ones, are very close together, which works against a sense of privacy as you conduct a conversation with a friend or eat alone. The coffee is good and I'm pleased that soya milk has been introduced as an alternative to cow's milk since so many are dairy-intolerant. But I would appreciate it if Cassis would stop charging extra for the soya milk and simply accept that a sophisticated urban populace regards this as an option that should be offered. The staff are unfailingly courteous, professionally friendly, and service is swift. The cakes and pastries are a delight to the eye and the tongue.
