We have always eaten here when visiting Cape Town. We won’t be going back. Ate on Tuesday 3rd April. 3 of us ate there and 3 became ill. My father became so ill he is now in hospital. My 11 year old daughter is now on the mend but I am still suffering severe diarreaha. In a water shortage restaurant staff really must clean their hands properly.
While we have visited a few other Cape Town Fish Market branches before, this was our first time at the Tokai branch, and regrettably, we left somewhat disappointed. We experienced long delays for our meals, even our simple sushi starter, and this was despite the restaurant being reasonably empty. The waitress, while friendly and clued up on the menu, disappeared after bringing our drinks, and only seen again when we received our sushi 30-40mins later. Not even a quick apology to advise that they are experiencing delays.Perhaps most disappointing of all, was my main meal. This, being primarily being a seafood restaurant, I expected the best, instead, was presented with rubbery overcooked, salty calamari, and cold 'baked mussels' with barely any sauce. That said, we did enjoy our sushi, so perhaps this branch is best suited for drinks and sushi with a group of friends, as location wise, this is one of the best venues I've visited, and the restaurant set up in itself, is lovely, spacious and does have a nice vibe about it.
