Do you want to enjoy real old-fashioned South African food? Well, look no further!!! Die Bosvelder is a huuuge restaurant - with seating outside, on a deck upstairs and inside. Private functions can be booked and live music are sometimes enjoyed there.
Service is good - decor is a lot of wood, but its cosy. But enough about this - let's talk food!
Lambs' tails - oh my gosh - absolutely to die for!!! Its served in a green-bean-stew sauce and is just absolutely fabulous!! (When available)
Skilpadjie (turtle?) - its lamb liver wrapped in caul fat - grilled so that the 'caul fat' is crispy. A must to order!
Pofadder - (puffadder snake) - well, its basically the same as the Skilpadjie - liver in a casing (derm) - so its made into a sausage. Some people stuff the sausage casing with a mixture of heart, liver and kidneys. This was ok-ish, but I've had better.
Papvingers (Maize fingers) - This is soooo good!! Stiff maize porridge deep fried!
And then ... then if you order in advance, you can have whole sheeps' heads - but you have to order a few. Well, I've had sheep's head before and it was a delight, so I may just have to find a 'partner in sheep's head' crime and we'll go for this.
Seriously - they have all kinds of food:
Kaiings en Pap (crackling and maize pap)
Marrowbones
Lamb tripe & trotters in curry
Oxtail
Chicken pie
Bobotie
Liver & Kidneys
Eisbein
Beef tongue and lamb shanks - ordered beforehand
They also have all the 'normal' food - burgers, starters, salads, steaks, chicken, spare ribs, vegetables, 'braai broodjies', biltong plate, baskets to share, desserts, etc.
Food is excellent, vibe is busy and amazing. Check their specials and their entertainment.
Maybe I'll see you there - I'll be the one with a sheep's head in front of me! (Gosh, as long as its not a black sheep - that's just a bit weird. hahah)
