Generous picnic baskets are packed with delicious dishes to be enjoyed al fresco. Think rillettes of local salmon trout to start, followed by succulent pasture-reared chicken and fresh farm salads, with fresh farm berries and a decadent chocolate marshmallow to finish off.
A fine selection of Boschendal wines is available to accompany your gourmet picnic. Their fully serviced picnics are carefully-laid out at tables or on a picnic blanket under the shady oak trees which surround the lawn
With dramatic mountain views framing the rolling lawns of Boschendal estate, it is no surprise that this venue is a popular summer picnic destination. Shaded tables are available as well as blankets or beanbag.

With the end of winter, we decided that a picnic was just what we
needed on a lazy Sunday. So, we booked in advance at Boschendal to
experience their Rhone Rose Garden Picnic.
Online it looked amazing and we were happy to pay in advance as they
require that. The Rose Garden is perfect for people who want the
benefit of lazing on the grass under a tree or sitting outside at a
table under a tree. We found a lovely spot and the wind was being very
well behaved. So, I anticipated a lovely and relaxed picnic.
Our waiter came to us and we proceeded to order a bottle of still
water for our table. He took the order and then advised us that he
will not be bringing the wine-list as the prices had changed and the
old prices are on the list. So, how do we order wine or bubbles? He
could not answer us so we asked him to bring the old wine-list anyway.
We then proceeded to order a bottle of MCC and a cider. Our water
arrived, but no ice bucket or water glasses. The MCC arrived and cider
but still no ice bucket or water glasses or Champagne Glasses. When I
asked the waiter, he seemed confused and pointed out the two wine
glasses on the table.
Eventually the water glasses, champagne glasses and ice bucket arrived.
Our picnic basket also arrived after quite some time but we weren't
too worried as we were enjoying the view and conversation. So, the
picnic basket is filled with Ciabatta Bread, onion marmalade, hummus,
coleslaw salad, coronation chicken, cold meats, chicken liver Pâté,
some butter and camembert cheese as well as two desserts. The picnic
basket was lovely. My only criticism is that whoever thought out it
clearly didn't put too much of effort. There are no crackers to go
with the Pâté, cheese and hummus. Two ciabatta's are provided but they
are not sliced and you have to tear them apart. The chicken liver Pâté
was inedible with no seasoning - really worst part of the picnic
basket. Please no more. It was truly disgusting. You could actually
see the grey pieces mixed with pink.....gross. And I actually love
Pâté and was looking forward to it.
Everything else was delicious including the desserts. We asked our
waiter for coffee which he happily told us he would bring to the
table. So the coffee arrived in disposable cups which was fine but the
milk arrived in a paper cup.
Sadly for such a well known and world renowned establishment I think
the picnics are poorly organised as well as managed. I expected so
much better but was very disappointed. Oh well.....
