A monthly community food and craft market is usually held on the first Saturday of the month in the heart of the Bo-Kaap, between 10am and 2pm at the Schotschekloof Civic Centre on Upper Wale Street. Enjoy traditional cakes, biscuits, rotis with curry, samoosas, koeksisters and more with excellent coffee and exotic teas. Also find gifts and hand-crafted items like crochet baskets and bags, crafts from recycled materials, kiddies clothing, decopage, jewellery, soft furnishing and soaps. Get fresh flowers, honey, spices and pickles to use at home. Entrance is free and this is the perfect place to mingle with the residents of this historic area for a truly cultural experience. Kids and adults can enjoy traditional games. There are also food demonstrations at 12 noon, where you can learn to make the ‘curry in a hurry’ !
Ethical shopper tip: Take home some of the pedigreed coffee beans. Selected from relationship farms across the world, they stock ingle origin, blended and organic beans.?
