Owner's description

Set in a prime spot at the Victoria Wharf, Baía (pronounced Ba-hia and meaning the Bay) enjoys spectacular panoramic harbour and ocean views. It has a cocktail bar, interior dining areas and covered outside dining areas spread across four terraces. The relaxing interior reflects the beauty of Table Bay in the wave-like mosaics and pale blues and mauve colours.

Had a lovely seafood curry at Baia. Little expensive though
Baia has a beautiful setting being right in the middle of the V&A Waterfront and therefore upmarket location.

That being said, I have to say that I found the service to be very attentive and good but overall the food was incredibly mediocre and exorbitantly expensive for what we had.

I wont be returning again because I consider it a total rip-off and daylight robbery.

The food was exceptional. The scallops were juicy and sweet. But the highlight of my meal was the langoustine, definitely doing it again.

I wondered why before I ate at Baia there were no reviews displayed, now having eaten there tonight for the first time I think it could be due to most of the customers being tourists. For a large established restaurant the staff seemed to be tonight overwhelmed with the number of guests . The food was good but with wrong wine offered, wrong vegetables on one dish and the constant clearing of the table before the last guest has finished eating (a real no no at GOOD restaurants) we felt the whole of the evening was being served at the convenience of the restaurant so they could be away by 10pm. By the way we were told when we asked for a jug of tap water that Cape Town water was not good for drinking! Not even the view could compensate.

Absolutely superb dining experience. I have eaten at Baia many times and have never once been disappointed. Yes, it is rather pricey but that being said, it is worth absolutely every cent (and I actually feel that the prices have come down slightly since my last visit in Feb 2011). We were lucky enough to get a table at the window on the terrace and the view of the harbour and Table Mountain is amazing from there.

The service was impeccable. Our waitress served us flawlessly, was always there when needed but not too familiar or too arrogant.

We both had the shellfish platters which consitsted of baby lobster, languistines, prawns, calamari and linefish. This is seafood at its absolute best. Nothing fussy about it, cooked to perfection and served with a side of lemon butter and paprika garlic butter.

The wine list has a good selection and the prices are on par with the Cape Town Restaurant prices.

All I can say is that I cannot wait to return. Thank you Baia for the wonderful dining experience.
