Splashes (Glenashley)

What a disappointment. Hadn't been to Splashes for a few years and made the mistake of going there last night. The beautiful classy Mediterranean Restaurant has been turned into a tacky sports bar with a pokey room on the side which serves as the restaurant. There was absolutely no atmosphere. The “restaurant room” is more like an afterthought hoping to retain some of the old Splashes patrons that enjoyed the original eatery. Strange over-eager manager on duty running around gushing words over his patrons. The waitress was not attentive and looked scruffy. The tables were grubby and needed wiping, which we had to request after she led us to the table. The fillet steak was OK at best and despite my insistence on medium RARE – it arrived very thinly cut and definitely NOT on the rare side. The “Fluffy Parmesan Mash” is better described as “half cooked glassy potatoes, smashed a bit to try and resemble something mashed” with no cheese flavour at all, let alone Parmesan which has a very distinct flavour. Grant it, the manager swapped the “mash” for the veg and brought us two shooters to compensate. Even my date’s pizza was not much better than a franchise store’s delivery despite the claim of “gourmet pizza”. Never again .
