If you were ever looking for the quintessential neighbourhood spot, Lime Tree Cafe would be it. Nestled in the leafy suburb of Bergvliet, this quaint and cosy cafe services the area with generous cafe-style food.
Food
Open for breakfast and lunches everyday, you really do want to head here for your first meal of the day. While the menu is made up of a great mix of lighter dishes, perfect for lunch, their breakfast offering is what to look out for. Aside from the standard breakfast, they serve a couple of standout dishes. Their Lime Tree Benedict ticks all the boxes, with poached eggs, rocket and smoked salmon served on a courgette and ricotta waffle. Every component was perfectly and deliciously executed, although the waffle does lose its sturdiness very soon. The Mediterranean morning – with boiled eggs, sliced avo, olives, cucumber and tomato – is a good option for those who enjoy piecing a breakfast together and the butter croissant with camembert and homemade fig jam is all kinds of satisfying.
Drinks
As you’d expect, there are the usual hot drinks on offer here. The coffee is not amazing, but certainly delivers when you’re in a ‘but-first-coffee’ sort of mood. The fresh juices are worth considering, and if they have the fruit or vegetable in the kitchen, they’ll be able to juice it for you – although, can you ever really beat a straight-up orange juice?
Service
The service is welcoming and patient – even when you take unreasonably long to decide what to order.
Ambience
Even if you’re not a regular, Lime Tree Cafe will make you feel like you’re at home. Plop yourself on one of the comfy couches and settle in for a hearty and satisfying meal. Don’t forget to stop past the deli counter for a wide selection of baked goods, preserves and homeware goodies.
