I went to Kloof Street House last night with my husband for my birthday. The ambience and service was great, but the food felt unimaginative and lacking a finesse I'd expect at that price - the springbok loin I had was amazingly tender but was paired with a heavy-handed sauce and lack-lustre side, and my husband's lamb shank had a nice flavour but wasn't the most tender ever, and was also paired with very standard mash. Sadly we were also seated right beside the front door which, being a windy night, meant I had to keep my overcoat on the whole dinner. The wait staff were all very attentive and knowledgeable, and our waitress recommended an excellent bottle of wine for us which she also decanted to allow the best flavour. I'll be back for drinks in Summer on the terrace, but don't know if I'll be back for dinner as there are so many other great options in the area at lower prices.
