It's easy to forget about Bird's - after all, there are so many great restaurants on Bree Street - but Bird's really is a fantastic place for breakfast and lunch. I breakfasted there on Saturday and was reminded of this. Simple, smart dishes are perfectly cooked and served by conscientious staff in a beautiful historic building. The poached eggs, bacon and bean and chickpea breakfast was perfect: free range eggs cooked to medium, which oozed just the right amount when sliced open, crisp bacon which was rich with flavour and a lovely rich tomatoey chickpea and bean sauce. It was also nice and calm inside - not something that can be said of some of the other breakfast spots on Bree Street on a Saturday!
