Wine safaris at Waterford

Wine lovers can now sample their favourite varietals in the open air courtesy of Waterford Estates brand new wine safaris. Estate winemaker and shareholder Kevin Arnold accompanies guests on a game-viewing Land Rover as it makes its way across the fynbos-covered property. En route, he fills you in on the farms history, its bio-diversity initiative, plus some interesting asides about the local and international wine industries.
Emphasising the ethos of getting visitors to experience whats on the inside and outside of the bottle, the vehicle stops at the sources of Waterfords lauded chardonnay and cabernet sauvignon for an educational stroll through the vineyards. Of course its not a solely studious affair, you get to taste your way through five estate greats in the process, including the flagship tipple, The Jem.
Those wanting to round off the outdoor experience with something sweet should definitely opt for the chocolate and wine pairing back at the tasting room. Greyton chocolatier Von Gessau has made a selection of bespoke Belgian choccies with interesting ingredients such as rose geranium, rock salt and masala, all perfectly suited to the estates respective vinos.
The two-hour wine safaris take place from Monday to Saturday at 10am and 3pm and cost R500, while the chocolate and wine tastings can be done between 9am and 5pm on weekdays and 10am and 3pm on Saturdays for between R60 and R90.
