I took my husband to the Gallery Café for his birthday as it was part of Restaurant Week and had a menu I felt he would enjoy. What a success. My first visit and totally unexpected.
Beautiful art works and very friendly service. The food was all excellent. He had the sugar bean soup, vetkoek and Botswana beef fillet – kept saying he was full – very generous portions, he just about licked the plate! He then declined dessert and proceeded to eat half of mine! A really good Espresso Crème Brulee.
I started with the Imhambaladi – fried brinjal with goats cheese, rocket and tomato with a lovely simple dressing, which was wonderful. I had the lamb ribs for the main. I exchanged the chips for samp and beans, which worked very well.
Lots of entertainment from the Long Street vibe – the restaurant overlooks Mama Africa – and a very pleasant evening was enjoyed by both of us.
I highly recommend this restaurant and thank you to Gourmet Week or I would never have found it.
