I had a wonderful meal recently at Tony’s on Kloof in Cape Town.
Tony’s is an authentic, warm Portuguese restaurant with a homely feel that serves up plates of Mozambican and Portuguese food. Tony, the owner and chef, loves what he does and therefore does it really well.
We ate Peri Peri chicken livers, imported chorizo with hot sauce, Prawns in chilli and garlic, Prawn curry smothered in a coconut sauce with a hint of chilli, Deep fried calamari tubes and plenty of Portuguese bread to mop up all the sauces with. I recommend the sticky toffee pudding and Tony’s homemade caramel.
It’s a casual family-style restaurant with a few fireplaces in some of the rooms and a bar that reminds me of a similar one in Beira.
A nice little wine list adds to the warmth with plenty of Portuguese wine especially rosé.
