It can never be a bad thing when another sushi bar opens in Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs to add to the few in operation at the moment. Better yet at the very plush Vineyard Hotel and Spa in Newlands.

The Courtyard Restaurant, in the centre, has just had a complete overhaul with elements of glass, steel, wood and light added to the mix. The expanded premises are now called ‘The Square’, alluding to the idea of an old village square where people meet to socialise. (Don’t panic – the fine dining ‘Au Jardin’ restaurant still remains!)

The indoor trees add a definite soothing element.

Executive chef, Alex Docherty, highlights sumptuous-sounding dishes from the new menu: Slow-roasted duck with bean sprouts and shiitake mushrooms; Grilled yellow fin tuna with a fresh avocado and pepper salad and Smoked plum tomato and parmesan tart with grilled asparagus and basil mascarpone.

Try some sushi from their new resident Japanese sushi chefs too.
