Popular coffee-shop chain Vida e Caffè teamed up with Cape Town charity Heroes of Groote Schuur this week to do something special for the workers at Cape Town’s largest hospital.
Following strict distancing measures, the Vida team set up their mobile coffee shop in the Groote Schuur Hospital parking lot early in the chilly winter morning. Soon nurses, security workers, doctors and therapists were joining the queue, grateful for a hot cup of coffee.
Many of the staff have been working long hours on the front line, fighting COVID-19 as it impacts communities across the greater Cape Town area. Coffees and hot chocolates were very welcome and smiles could be detected even through the masks.
Heroes of Groote Schuur is an online community celebrating the wonderful work that hundreds of medical professionals do every day of the year. Over the past few months, the Heroes Facebook page has also sadly become a digital memorial for those healthcare workers who have contracted COVID-19 during the course of their work and subsequently died.
Follow them for more updates, and share some encouraging words with these essential workers who are helping so many!
