Top 10 nominee Rudi Liebenberg debuts new gourmet pizza at Col’Cacchio

As part of their annual Col’Cacchio Celebrity Chef Series, Col’Cacchio has appointed a new guest chef for November, and it’s none other than Top 10 nominee Rudi Liebenberg, acclaimed executive chef of Planet Restaurant at the Belmond Mount Nelson.

Each year, Col’Cacchio pizzeria invites top celebrity chefs from around the country to create a gourmet pizza to feature on their menu for one month, with a portion of the proceeds going to charity. Chef Rudi joins chef Mike Basset of Myoga at The Vineyard Hotel and Jodi-Ann Pearton, founder of The Food Design Agency in Johannesburg, whose gourmet pizzas were featured in September and October respectively.

Rudi joins the initiative for its final month for 2014 with his gourmet creation, the Mrs Periwinkle pizza. Described as a ‘taste of summer’, the pizza features a tomato and mozzarella base topped with a medley of prawns, calamari and mussels cooked in chilli-garlic butter and lightly drizzled with peri-peri. The inspiration comes from a childhood memory of the best pizza he can remember – a seafood pizza his mom brought home after returning from a business trip in Cape Town. The Mrs Periwinkle pizza costs R115 and is available at all Col’Cacchio branches during the month of November.

In December, R5 from every Celebrity Chef pizza sold since September will go to The Children’s Hospital Trust to fund a paediatric rehabilitation centre for chronically ill children.
