Until recently, Sushi Zone in Observatory was somewhat of an oasis for sushi-lovers in this part of the Southern Suburbs. A great new addition to the hive of neighbourhood eateries in this area – the friendly 1890 House, situated in the heart of Obs social centre – is bound to change all that.

A far cry from the super-sleek sushi hotspots favoured by inner-city hipsters, here an undercurrent of off-beat honesty prevails.

Sushi purists might object to the occasional Chinese influence that can be spotted on the conveyer belt – such as crispy deep-fried tuna or whole prawn spring rolls – but a hearty miso soup, deliciously fresh tuna sashimi and friendly service will certainly win them over.
