South Africa’s most stylish restaurant

The Boschendal Style Award – a new accolade in the 2011 Eat Out DStv Food Network Restaurant Awards – will name the most stylish restaurant in South Africa on Sunday night at the much-anticipated gala event at the Bay Hotel.  

Whether they display cutting-edge design, quirky and cosy décor, or sumptuous vintage interiors, the 19 nominees all have that ever-elusive quality: style. We have profiled them every Friday for the past few months and the five finalists will be featured in the 2012 edition of Eat Out magazine.  

Babel
Situated on the idyllic Babylonstoren farm, Babel brings together farmhouse chic and contemporary Cape Dutch design.

Carne 
The carnivorous restaurant in top restaurateur Giorgio Nava’s portfolio, Carne is industrial, but warm; a treat for design enthusiasts and meat lovers alike.

Central One Restaurant 
With David Higgs at the helm, Central One Restaurant is warm, relaxed and stylish.

Craft Trattoria
Durban hotspot Craft Trattoria blends serene Scandinavian design with fun, quirky elements to create a relaxed, stylish space.

Dear Me
Set in a 181-year old building, Dear Me blends old and new to create a whimsical, New York style deli feel.

The Grand Cafe and Beach
Boho chic meets colonial opulence at the Grand Cafe and Beach in Granger Bay.

Hemelhuijs
Mother city lunch spot Hemelhuijs opened last October to rave reviews, both for its heavenly comfort food and its chic, contemporary design.  

Indochine 
Dark wood, blue leather, lanterns, and incredible views: Indochine is the place to go for contemporary Asian dining with drama.

Kream 
Swanky restaurant Kream is the place in Pretoria to head for posh nosh in a stylish setting.  

Makaron 
Situated inside luxury hotel Majeka House in Stellenbosch, Makaron is beautiful, quirky, and serene, all at once.

Overture 
Set on the spectacular Hidden Valley Wine Estate, Overture is an elegant, yet relaxed restaurant, where Bertus Basson's food shines.

Pierneef à La Motte 
Our seventh nominee for the Boschendal Style Award mixes Cape culinary history with contemporary design in a beautiful farm setting.

Planet
Situated inside the Mount Nelson Hotel, the fourth of our Boschendal Style Award nominees, Planet Restaurant puts a contemporary spin on the Nelly’s sophisticated ambience.

Pure 
Set in the historic Hout Bay Manor, Pure makes a magical setting for dinner or a relaxed lunch in the tea garden, under the Plane trees.

Rust en Vrede 
The architecture of the 1700s mingles elegantly with modern touches at Rust en Vrede to create a lovely warm ambience with classic style.  

The Saxon 
Boutique hotel, villa and spa in Sandhurst, The Saxon once played host to Nelson Mandela, while he edited A Long Walk to Freedom. Today, it notches up style points for its understatedly elegant design.

The Test Kitchen by Luke Dale-Roberts 
The third or our nominees for the Boschendal Style Award at the Eat Out Awards, The Test Kitchen is the perfect mix of industrial and intimate.

Thomas Maxwell Bistro
Thomas Maxwell Bistro has a contemporary feel with a quirky twist.  

Woodlands Eatery
Artsy and cosy, Woodlands Eatery has grown a loyal following amongCapetonians who are drawn here as much by the relaxed, shabby-chic décor as by the tasty pizzas.
