Something old something new

Two celebrated Gauteng eateries – somewhat of an old dame and a rather young steed – were amongst those awarded a position in the Eat Out Top 10 Restaurants for 2007.

Johannesburg favourite, Linger Longer, where one can choose between an à la carte or a seasonal menu is known for its high culinary standards,  writes Allison Smith in the 2008 edition of Eat Out magazine.

Here guests are made to feel special by chef Walter Ulzs unique seasonal creations such as  veal brain and bobotie spring roll with ostrich and springbok on beetroot sauce or crocodile and prawn in a mango curry sauce.

Exquisite dishes from an exceptionally humble man, who at the 2007 Eat Out Awards ceremony proclaimed Without the staff you cant run a restaurant.

Of the somewhat more recent addition to Gautengs fine dining scene, Roots, Adele Stiehler writes Undoubtedly the best restaurant on the West Rand, this is all pleasure for those enjoying quality food and wine.

Here Chef patron Philippe Wagenfuhrer along with head chef Jason Francisco, combines modern French cuisine with local and oriental flavours in their daily changing set menus.

Says the modest Phillipe at the 2007 Eat Out Awards ceremony, I look at the room and I see people like Walter, Michel, Justine…when Im going to be a big boy…an old man, I want to be just like them.
