Savanna launches a new whiskey-flavoured cider

Savanna fans are in for something new with the launch of Savanna Neat Premium Whisky Flavoured Cider. Staying true to its signature crisp and dry profile, this latest offering features a subtle hint of whisky and notes of toasted oak, adding a sophisticated twist to the beloved classic. 

Since coming onto the drinks scene in 1996, Savanna has become a household name with its signature dry wit and playful brand persona. Now, with Savanna Neat, the brand continues to innovate while keeping the humour and refreshing taste that fans have come to expect.   

“We’ve crafted it for an unpretentious generation that’s into bold new flavours without the fuss,” says Robert Weeder, Brand Manager at Heineken Beverages.  

The tagline “It’s giving whisky” implies that Savanna Neat has the feeling of a whisky, but it by no means is. It remains a true Savanna Premium cider. “To land this point, we playfully poked fun at all the whisky tropes – from age-old traditions to the pretentiousness of how it’s consumed at clubs with the glorifiers and the pageantry. It’s all about giving South Africans permission to laugh at themselves and the world we live in,” says Steph Van Niekerk, Executive Creative Director at TBWA/Hunt Lascaris. 

Savanna’s whisky-flavoured twist aligns perfectly with a growing trend in the drinks market towards ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages, especially flavoured ciders and alcoholic spritzers. This shift caters to consumers seeking convenient, versatile, and flavour-forward drink options. The market has seen an influx of innovative options that blend the familiar with the unexpected. As RTD ciders gain popularity, brands like Savanna continue to push the envelope with creative combinations and approachable marketing, reshaping how people experience cider.
