Remember gogga gelato? Well, the creators of Gourmet Grubb are back, and this time with a restaurant taking insect-eating to the next level. Named The Insect Experience, the bug-inspired restaurant will open on 11 July 2019 in Woodstock, Cape Town.
What can you expect? The collaborative tasting-style menu designed by Chef Mario Barnard features dishes like chickpea black fly larvae croquettes served with a mopane-and-hummus dip topped with basil dressing and bits of dried mealworms. Also on the menu is polenta fries made with mopane flour and served with a tomato-and-chilli chutney – offering a different take on mopane worms, a popular delicacy in the northern parts of South Africa. Deep-fried dark chocolate larvae ice cream with a sugar cone provides a sweet ending to the insect-inspired meal.
The Insect Experience is located at the GOODfood space in Woodstock.
