With over 107 dishes on the takeaway menu (excluding sushi), there are options for all diners, although some dishes do require explaining. From Thai curries to more elaborate duck dishes, these are among the cheapest takeaways you’ll find.
Boiled and fried dumplings were a good first choice, and both were filled with pork and cabbage. However, the fillings were tasteless and they arrived cold and under seasoned.
At R169, the salmon platter might fill the stomach of a hungry student but the sushi consisted of under-seasoned, not so sticky rice and little filling, although the salmon hand-roll had good-sized piece of salmon in it. The portions of pickled ginger and wasabi were generous.
The beef and oyster sauce lived up to being a tried-and-trusted menu item, with tender beef in a huge portion. Noodles can also be substituted for rice for an additional R2. However, the overall dish was a little bland and, as with almost everything, quality appears to have been sacrificed for quantity.
The Massaman curry was sold out, but the Thai green chicken curry was an enjoyable second option. Although it was tasty, the sauce looked processed and mass produced. Once again it was a large portion.
The bowtie dessert at R9 a portion was a substantial sweet and sticky end to the meal. It was a light crunchy pastry smothered in a syrup as it should be.
Although alcoholic beverages are sold here, including wine and beer, it is the coldrinks in the fridge in the foyer seem to be the beverage of choice. The wine list is surprisingly comprehensive and not badly priced.
The waitron was very knowledgeable about the menu, and she seemed to be running the place, including the takeaways, making sure everyone got the correct order, as well as making sure those sitting in the restaurant for a meal were served. The fast service suggests that everything is preprepared and ready-made.
The seating area was dark, cold and uninviting, however the service was fast and efficient. There was a constant influx of take-away orders that both Uber Eats and Mr D were coming round to collect.
